About

WHAT WOULD A THRIVING AND EQUITABLE MIDTOWN LOOK LIKE, IF WE IDENTIFIED AND INVESTED IN THE HISTORY, ARTISTIC TALENT, AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION OF OUR COMMUNITY?

Hello Santa Fe! Welcome to the Culture Connects Midtown Project.

The Culture Connects Midtown team is building a “cartography of creativity” for Santa Fe. We hope to gather a chorus of voices that will reveal the values inherent to the neighborhoods that are adjacent to the Midtown Site, and build a community archive on this website that is made by and for the people.

We invite you to participate with us! See below for ways in which you can join our work in building a cartography of creativity.

How can I engage with the Culture Connects Midtown Project?

We are developing many different ways to engage with us – see more about each project below, sign up for our mailing list  to stay tuned as they are developing!

Now through August: Six Degrees of Connection Project

September: LittleglobeTV

October: Midtown “Breaking Boundaries” Fest

Who is the Culture Connects Midtown team?

The Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI) is one of the few organizations still in operation on the Midtown Site, formerly known as the College of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. SFAI and our partners at Littleglobe and UNM applied for and received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, through the Our Town Grant, to engage the local community in developing this vision. Our wonderful team continues to grow! Please see more about us here.

CULTURE CONNECTS MIDTOWN PROJECTS IN MORE DETAIL

Six Degrees of Connection

The Six Degrees of Connection project is focused on collecting individual stories about belonging, displacement, loss, resilience and connection, from those with a connection to the neighborhoods surrounding Santa Fe’s Midtown Site.

We want to hear your stories, which will inform the city’s vision the future for this property, through a community-based archive that will be on this interactive website.

Littleglobe TV

Stay tuned for the next episode of Littleglobe TV on September 17, which will focus on the center of our town: Midtown!

Littleglobe TV is a patchwork, potluck collection of DIY, crowd-sourced, low-budget, community-generated stories, skits, songs, poems, news reports and random acts of art. Littleglobe’s multigenerational filmmaking team draws from every corner of Santa Fe to celebrate our creativity, resilience, and humor in the face of adversity.

Littleglobe TV is a citycast, with the voices of the many incorporated into a show for all. We will be reaching out to residents of Santa Fe, asking everyone to share photos, stories, songs, videos, and more, with us – about the center of our town: Midtown.

The resulting videos, songs, stories, jokes, and other elements will be shared on Facebook and YouTube Live on September 17, in a 45-minute community-created show. Stay tuned by signing up for our mailing list!

Midtown “Breaking Boundaries” Fest

Although on-site events are currently limited due to COVD-19, we are developing ideas for safe site activations that will amplify the stories we are gathering; reveal the creativity, memories, and sense of belonging in our local community; and help us all to envision an inclusive, intentional, and vibrant Midtown district.  This event, or series of events, will have different activities with a goal to collectively heal, imagine, and connect with another across the boundaries that hem us in. This event, or series of events, will be planned for mid-October.
